It was incredibly refreshing to see the ‘Arkitektonika’ Exhibition at Berlin’s, Hamburger Banhof. More and more I feel as if there are an increasing amount of interesting projects happening in the ‘art’ world concerning architecture, then in the ‘architecture’ realm itself. As I travel around it just happens to be that there are these exhibitions going on that seem to be exactly what I am interested in and currently studying.
Rem Koolhaas’ recent study on Art Museums and their increasing ‘bigness’ makes me wonder if art itself is getting bigger in scale, becoming more about environments and experiences in which we physically pass through opposed to mentally inhabiting a two dimensional plane . Maybe ‘art’ is naturally filling a void where architecture has failed to occupy in the last decade or so, where architecture seems to be more concerned with an image, an icon, a selling feature - a slave to the economy, the projects of Arkitektonika aim at summoning something from within, making a comment on how we inhabit space in the lived world.
